Fundamental research – Early career scholars

Target group: This call aims to stimulate high quality fundamental research providing a team of (a minimum of) two early-career scholars from (at least) two faculties with dedicated research time, The researchers eligible for seed funding have a notable interdisciplinary basis and obtained a PhD degree within the last ten years. Researchers contribute positively to the promotion of the overall Maastricht, Working on Europe initiative.

Ambition: A working paper leading to the subsequent publication in a peer-reviewed journal is the minimum required output of each project. Working papers will be part of the collective “policy briefs collection” of Studio Europa and the Maastricht, Working on Europe programme.

Funding: The seed funding aims to relieve the research team of teaching and/or administrative duties for (a maximum of four months per team). Please note that the awarded funding should be allocated in 2020/2021. Before submission of your application, good coordination with your department head is necessary in view of the faculties educational planning.

This call is open.

Proposals and applications must be:

  1. innovative and of high academic quality;
  2. interdisciplinary and preferably interfaculty in nature;
  3. linked to at least one of the four main research themes defined;
  4. include acquisition of external funding (i.e., “a fly-wheel effect”);
  5. show a strong societal impact, outreach and/or citizen science component.
